Tracks
There are three racetracks in the game that can also be played in mutiplayer mode with up to four players.
+
There are three tracks in Go Go UFO that can be played in any order. Upon selecting a track, players can then choose which mode they want to play in as well as rebind any controls.

  +
Players can choose from the following courses:
1: Stardust Speedway
  +
*Level: Easy

*Description: Stardust Speedway is shaped like a rounded square, with a large hole in the middle of it.
+
#Stardust Speedway - An evenly rounded square-shaped course with a large hole in the centre.
  +
#Cosmic Collision - A rounded square-shaped course with a longer and sometimes narrower path than Stardust Speedway. There are two thumper bumpers at the bottom - one on each corner of the outer square shape. When a UFO hits a bumper, it will cause it to bounce off in a different direction, depending on the angle of the trajectory.
<gallery>

  +
#Space Hopper - A track consisting of three segments. Players must boost themselves to other parts using springs at the end of each segment leading up to the checkered line.

3: Space Hopper
*Level: Hard

*Description: Like Cosmic Collision, there are quite a few turns in Space Hopper. This time, however, the track is separated into 3 parts which players have to jump from one to the other. To do this, players need to boost themselves over a springboard at the end of each part. If unsuccessful, players will fall off.

Objects
There are three objects that appear in the game.

Meteors
+
Scoring
In single player time trial, players are scored on how long they take to complete the track. The leaderboard shows the first 100 players who have completed the track in the shortest amount of time.
Meteors are hazards that appear on all three tracks, signaled well ahead of time by a shadow on the track. On impact, they will turn to dust and flatten any UFOs in its way. Players will lose control of their UFO for a brief moment before it returns to its normal phase.

Bumpers
+
Unused content
  +
Most of Go Go UFO's unused content comes in the form of unused text.
Bumpers are interactive objects that only appear in Cosmic Collision. When players hit them, they will bounce off in a different direction, depending on the angle of the hit. With skill, players can use them to their advantage.

Springboards
+
Text
  +
Grey
Springboards are interactive objects that appear only in Space Hopper. UFOs can travel over gaps in the track by traveling over them with a lot of power.

Go Go UFO's image files contain pictures of grey coloured text. These include special characters and punctuation marks such as a forward slash (<code>/</code>), starting quotation mark (<code>"</code>), British Pound symbol (<code>£</code>), and a hyphen (<code>-</code>).

  +
All of this text except the British Pound symbol is at the regular size of all other used text.
Scoring
Players earn scores for the amount of time they take to complete the race, in a one player time trial. The high score list does not show the top scores, rather, it shows the first 100 players who have completed the track in the shortest time.

Unused content
Go Go UFO contains a large amount of unused content, mostly in the form of unused text. It is notable that what is possibly beta Go Go UFO text is present as unused images of text in Snow Drift, of all the unused images in Snow Drift only one of these images appearing in Go Go UFO (also unused).

Unused grey coloured text
Go Go UFO contains some very strange unused text. Present in the game's image files are images of grey coloured text, all text being unused and lacking a used equivalent. Unused grey coloured images of text include a forward slash (/), starting quotation mark ("), British Pound symbol (£), and a hyphen (-).

  +
<gallery captionalign="center" captionsize="small" bordersize="none" bordercolor="transparent">
All of this text except the British Pound symbol is at the regular size of all other used text. If Nitrome had a set of grey letters that had a dark outline and around light coloured text, they may have simply converted all these images to the pallete they currently had, but only the letters the used, and not converted the other text they did not need to use.

Unused different green coloured text
Also present in the game is an unused backwards slash that appears to be the same size and fit in Go Go UFO, however, the outline is darker in colour than the used font.

  +
Green
Interestingly, this image is also present as unused text in Snow Drift, among other text using the same font seen in this unused text (also unused in Snow Drift). It is possible that the unused text in Snow Drift was early text for Go Go UFO.

  +
Although green coloured text is used in the game, some of it in the game's files remains unused. These include:

  +
*A backwards slash that is darker in colour than the used font.
The unused text in Snow Drift that have the same colours as this unused text are a forward slash (/), equal sign (=), a starting quotation mark (“), a starting bracket [(] and ending bracket [)]. Although Go Go UFO also has an unused quotation mark and forward slash, they are different from the unused Snow Drift ones.

  +
*A plus sign (<code>+</code>)
  +
*A comma (<code>,</code>)
  +
*An apostrophe (<code>'</code>), which has the same appearance as the comma, except in a higher position
  +
*Parentheses (<code>( )</code>)
  +
*A question mark (<code>?</code>)

Furthermore, the unused brackets present in Snow Drift barely resemble the unused Go Go UFO brackets. None of this other unused text is present in Go Go UFO.
+
The unused brackets are different than the ones seen in the <code>(c) nitrome ltd 2008 (www.nitrome.com)</code> image seen at the bottom of the menu.

Unused green coloured text
Present in Go Go UFO's image files are images of text, these images using the same colours as regular used text, but are not used at all throughout Go Go UFO. Unused is a plus sign (+), comma (,), apostrophe (appears the same as a comma), a starting bracket [(], an ending bracket [)], and a question mark (?).

  +
<gallery captionalign="center" captionsize="small" bordersize="none" bordercolor="transparent">
Notably, the unused apostrophe and unused comma have the same sprite, despite being two separate images. However, the apostrophe's sprite is raised higher than the comma. The unused brackets are different than the ones seen in the "(c) nitrome ltd 2008 (www.nitrome.com)" image seen at the bottom of the menu. Furthermore, the unused similarly coloured brackets in Snow Drift may be beta versions of these unused brackets, considering how the Snow Drift brackets tend to fit more with the Go Go UFO theme.

Remnants of unused text
Present in the image files of Go Go UFO are images that are completely blank. However, they do have a name, and these images are among other used text. There are three remnants of unused images of text (all information is assumed from the file name): an exclamation mark (!)(image is titled "text2_exclamation"), a period (image is titled "text2_stop" ; fullstop is the British name for a period), and an equal sign (=)(image is titled "text2_equals").

  +
Blank sprites
The blank image titled "tex2equals" may have originally been the unused equal sign that is present in Snow Drift's code.

Unused/beta track
Each track of Go Go UFO has a track mask and track guide, each image being a large image of one colour that could fit on top of the entire track, across all solid platforms. Track masks have their image file named "track_mask", with an underscore after "mask" connecting the word "mask" and the number of track mask together.

  +
*<code>text2_exclamation</code>
All track masks are pink, with the exception of track mask 1, which is white. Also existing are images titled track guides, each track guide having the word "track" and "guide" in their name, with a number between each word, this number connected by underscores. Track guides are all coloured white, and appear exactly as track masks.

  +
*<code>text2_stop</code>
  +
*<code>text2_equals</code>

  +
Tracks
It is not known whether they are unused or are used for the construction of tracks. While Stardust Speedway uses track_mask_1 and track_1_guide, Cosmic Collision uses track_mask_2 and track_2_guide, and Space Hopper uses track_mask_3 and track_3_guide, there is present in Go Go UFO's image files a large white rectangle with smooth corners, this rectangle having a small door-like opening close to the bottom of the rectangle and a medium sized opening close to the top of the rectangle.

  +
Each track in Go Go UFO has two components in the files: a mask and a guide. Track masks have their image file named <code>track_mask</code> and are pink, with the exception of track mask 1, which is white. Each track guide has the word "track" and "guide" in their file names, with a number connecting the two words between two underscores, eg. <code>track_2_guide</code>. Track guides are all coloured white.

  +
Stardust Speedway uses <code>track_mask_1</code> and <code>track_1_guide</code>, Cosmic Collision uses <code>track_mask_2</code> and <code>track_2_guide</code>, and Space Hopper uses <code>track_mask_3</code> and <code>track_3_guide</code>. There is also a large white rectangle with smooth corners with a small door-like opening close to the bottom and a medium sized opening close to the top that none of the tracks use. Its appearance is similar to Stardust Speedway's track mask and guide.
Due to the size of this image being the size of a regular track, it is likely that it is the remnants of an unused track, this image likely being the unused track's track guide or track mask. Although it being an unused track is plausible, it is also possible it is a beta version of Stardust Speedway, considering its white colour, similar curved corners, and placement of their gaps.

Trivia
If this is in fact an early version, it is likely that this track mask/guide was made very early in Go Go UFO's development, as where all tracks track map/guide can easily tell the course that is taken on the track, this track map/guide does not have any sort of indication of the course the player would take. The lack of course for the player to take may imply that this course was meant to be more hazard or unhelpful obstacle based, consisting of many of these objects placed around the course that the player would have to avoid.

*Go Go UFO and Calamari are the only Nitrome games so far that are both a mini and multiplayer game.

Gameplay

Go Go UFO - Stardust Speedway - Placement indicators

A four-player race on Stardust Speedway with 1st and 2nd place indicators.

Players control a mini UFO using three keys that steer and boost their character forward while racing around a track. To complete the race, a UFO must loop through the track three times. Up to four players can play on the same track simultaneously.

In single player mode (aka "1 Player: Time Trial"), players race around the track with a single UFO and the time they take to finish the race with counts towards the leaderboard.

In multiplayer mode (aka "2 Player", "3 Player" or "4 Player"), players race around the track until everyone but one player has finished. Players who complete the race first or second get a "1st" and "2nd" label above their UFO, respectively. If more than one player has not finished the race, players who have already finished the race are still able to move around the track, but the game will not recognize that they have completed more than three laps.

Two universal obstacles are present in the game: falling and meteors. If players fall off the track, they will immediately respawn at the nearest point they were to completing the track. Meteorites also periodically fall onto random parts of the track, and are signaled by a shadow a couple seconds before they land. If a UFO is right underneath a meteorite, it will squash the UFO and temporarily inhibit the player's control.

Tracks

There are three tracks in Go Go UFO that can be played in any order. Upon selecting a track, players can then choose which mode they want to play in as well as rebind any controls.

Players can choose from the following courses:

 1. Stardust Speedway - An evenly rounded square-shaped course with a large hole in the centre.
 2. Cosmic Collision - A rounded square-shaped course with a longer and sometimes narrower path than Stardust Speedway. There are two thumper bumpers at the bottom - one on each corner of the outer square shape. When a UFO hits a bumper, it will cause it to bounce off in a different direction, depending on the angle of the trajectory.
 3. Space Hopper - A track consisting of three segments. Players must boost themselves to other parts using springs at the end of each segment leading up to the checkered line.

Scoring

In single player time trial, players are scored on how long they take to complete the track. The leaderboard shows the first 100 players who have completed the track in the shortest amount of time.

Unused content

Most of Go Go UFO's unused content comes in the form of unused text.

Text

Grey

Go Go UFO's image files contain pictures of grey coloured text. These include special characters and punctuation marks such as a forward slash (/), starting quotation mark ("), British Pound symbol (£), and a hyphen (-).

All of this text except the British Pound symbol is at the regular size of all other used text.

Green

Although green coloured text is used in the game, some of it in the game's files remains unused. These include:

 • A backwards slash that is darker in colour than the used font.
 • A plus sign (+)
 • A comma (,)
 • An apostrophe ('), which has the same appearance as the comma, except in a higher position
 • Parentheses (( ))
 • A question mark (?)

The unused brackets are different than the ones seen in the (c) nitrome ltd 2008 (www.nitrome.com) image seen at the bottom of the menu.

Blank sprites

GGU13

A list of Go Go UFO's sprites with the blank image titled "tex2_exclamation"

Some images that are completely blank, but still have names. These names include:

 • text2_exclamation
 • text2_stop
 • text2_equals

Tracks

Each track in Go Go UFO has two components in the files: a mask and a guide. Track masks have their image file named track_mask and are pink, with the exception of track mask 1, which is white. Each track guide has the word "track" and "guide" in their file names, with a number connecting the two words between two underscores, eg. track_2_guide. Track guides are all coloured white.

GGU11

Track masks to all of Go Go UFO's tracks, including the unused one (bottom-right corner).

Stardust Speedway uses track_mask_1 and track_1_guide, Cosmic Collision uses track_mask_2 and track_2_guide, and Space Hopper uses track_mask_3 and track_3_guide. There is also a large white rectangle with smooth corners with a small door-like opening close to the bottom and a medium sized opening close to the top that none of the tracks use. Its appearance is similar to Stardust Speedway's track mask and guide.

Trivia

 • Go Go UFO and Calamari are the only Nitrome games so far that are both a mini and multiplayer game.
 • The third racetrack, Space Hopper, shares its name with another Nitrome game.
 • Although not directly credited, the track used in this game is "Trailblazer" by Bjorn Lynne[2].
