Nitrome 2.5 is the fourth incarnation of Nitrome's site, following Nitrome 2.0. The update was originally released on July 12, 2013, but was taken down soon after due to technical bugs[1]. It was officially brought back up seven days later, on the 19th of July[2].

Features[]

This version of the website added accounts. Users with accounts could save a list of hearted games and comment in games' new comments sections. Avatars for accounts were hidden throughout the site, including in games.

Accounts were removed in 2018 due to GDPR, with Nitrome announcing that the website would have a major update soon. Following a long silence, Nitrome revealed on a blog post on May 23, 2020 that they changed plans in favor of focusing on converting their games to HTML5 as it was now becoming possible. It was replaced with Nitrome 2.6 instead.[3]

  3. Nitrome blog post: HTML5 Games and more!: You may remember in our previous post that we said we were making a new website. This is not that site. Our intent at the time was to make a new website that focused on games outside of the browser. It was going to be heavily stripped back and more business focused. We progressed some way with this direction but ultimately changed our minds that this was the way we wanted the site to go. A large part of that decision was due to the HTML5 versions of the games becoming a possibility. We still intend to make a new site that will be more responsive (scale and adjust for various mobile, tablet and desktop set ups). We do not have a clear idea yet on when that might happen and as such are not going to make any estimate on when that might arrive. We will give more news when we have more concrete plans., 23 May 2020, retrieved 8 October 2020.
