Seen on the front page of the Nitrome Wiki - and on many other wikis - is a section called "contents". Underneath this section is a colourful template that links to various categories of the wiki. Below is a guide that shows how to create them.

Making this template requires one to go into source mode, as it is impossible to do outside source mode. Below is the the blank template of the start of the template (this is what it looks like in source mode):

{| style="width:100%; background:; border:1px solid ; margin-top:2px; padding:5px;"
|-
| style="color:#000;" colspan="3" |
|-
| style="width:20%; background-color:; vertical-align: top;" |<h3 style="padding:5px; background:Pink; color:Gold; border:1px solid Darkgray; text-align:center;">

The above template is what is placed at the top of the contents template. Each cell of the template (explanation parameters have been added) looks like the below (in source mode):

<b>[[:Category:<name of category>|<name of category>]]</b></h3><b>[[File:<file name>|<file resizing, eg: 100px>|center|link=Category:<name of category>]] </b>
| style="width:20%; background-color:; vertical-align: top;" |<h3 style="padding:5px; background:<name of background colour>; color:Gold; border:1px solid Darkgray; text-align:center;">

Now, where it says <name of category> in the above example is where the name of the desired category is placed. Whatever is picked for the substitution of <name of category> is substituted everywhere on the template <name of category> is.

<file name> is where one puts the file name of what they want to be displayed under the box that contains the name of the category. For example, if one wanted to use Hot, what would be put down is Hot.PNG . This is because in source mode, the prefix File:, and the [[ and ]] are already there. Thus, in the <file name> section, one would put down the file's name (Hot in this example) and the files extension (.PNG in this example).

Now, in the <file resiszing, eg: 100px> section is where one would put down the number of px they want to resize the image. Unfortunately, the Wikia Rich Editor (regular visual editor) cannot be used to resize the picture - it has to be done manually. Different images act differently to what number is put down that is followed by px. Try any number to resize an image, numbers usually under 100 will resize it considerably. If one finds that an image is too small, try putting in big numbers.

Example:

<nowiki>[[File:FR32.png]]/nowiki>
gets you:
FR32

[[File:FR32.png|100px]]
gets you:
FR32

[[File:FR32.png|240px]]
gets you:

FR32

A good tip to remember is that many images reduce to their regular size if 100px is applied to them. Also, some small images require large numbers to be increased in size, or very small number to decrease in size.

Where it reads <name of background colur> is where one puts down the name of the background colour. A full list of colours can be accessed here.

When one has come to the end of the section, and wants to put cells below, they have to make the last cell of the upper section with this code:

<b>[[:Category:<name of category>|<name of category>]]</b></h3><b>[[File:<file name>|<file resizing>|center|link=Category:<name of category>]] </b>
|-
| style="width:25%; background-color:; vertical-align: top;" |<h3 style="padding:5px; background:Pink; color:Gold; border:1px solid Darkgray; text-align:center;">

As this cell uses the same named parameters that have already been mentioned, it is probably apparent what should be put in place of the messages. Now, below this cell once can put more of the regular sized cells.

Whenever one wants to put cells underneath the current line they are on, simply use the above template and fill it in like a usual cell. When one has put in enough cells and are done, simply put down the above template, but without the |- and everything after that, but with something new. It should look like the below (regular parameters have been added):

<nowiki><b>[[:Category:<name of category>|<name of category>]]</b></h3><b>[[File:<file name>|<file resizing>|center|link=Category:<name of category>]] </b>
| style="width:25%; background-color:; vertical-align: top;" rowspan="2"|
|}
</nowiki>

That is what is put down as the last cell.
